What is In House?
Each year Paperhouse Studio hosts a benefit art show called In House, welcoming eight emerging and established artists to create work highlighting a material so familiar that it is often invisible — paper! Paperhouse supports the making of the work with space and technical assistance.
This program presents an opportunity for artists, with or without paper making experience, to experiment with the diverse approaches and outcomes of working with handmade paper. Participating artists are provided with 30 hours of technical assistance from expert papermakers Emily Cook and Flora Shum, as well as a $100 bursary for materials supplied through Paperhouse Studio. The work created will be shown at the In House benefit art show at the end of the program period.
Paperhouse Studio is a vibrant educational and art production facility. Paperhouse provides expertise and a dedicated, fully-equipped studio for artists to discover the potential of handmade paper in their contemporary art practices. Located in Artscape Youngplace in downtown Toronto, the studio is an experimental space in which to explore all manner of paper-related arts. In House is an important fundraiser for Paperhouse Studio; all artwork purchases and draw ticket sales enable the organization to support local artists through specialized paper making facilities, youth outreach and educational programs.
